Arsenal danger man Pepe has left the Ivory Coast camp injured and has been ruled of their international friendly matches against Benin and Tunisia on Friday and Tuesday respectively.
The 24-year old featured in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham in the North London derby last week. He then joined up with the Cote D’Ivoire squad in Deauville, north western France, from where he has returned to London because of the injury.
An official statement from the Ivorian Football Federation says, “Nicolas Pepe, injured in (his) club, came to report his injury on Wednesday late afternoon.”
Although the injury is not thought to be serious, it however remains unclear if he will be available for the Gunners for their Premier League clash against Watford a week on Sunday.
This would have come as a surprise to many as Pepe played the full 90 minutes against the Lilywhites, claiming an assist for Lacazette’s goal which halved the deficit before half-time.
Having not had a full pre-season – because of his involvement at this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament – it was agreed by the Ivorian federation and Arsenal that it is best for him to work on his fitness at London Colney.
